THIS POST WAS ORIGINALLY MADE December 5th OF 2017 ON OUR ORIGINAL WORDPRESS

Hey there, guys and gals!

A few things are happening this week that you might want to know about!

TONIGHT (Tuesday)-

Everything there is to know about being LGBTQ in the Rural Bible Belt

We found out about a discussion panel being held at the Public Library about the experiences people have living in the bible belt as an LGBTQ+ individual.

This event is in part the fruition of a dream Jolene Lenz Mora has had for some time. Jo,  a student at Fort Hays currently, found inspiration and motivation to push for this discussion in a class she is currently taking. With support lent from The Hutchinson Area Equality Coalition, PFLAG, and several others.

It will be a panel of 10-12 individuals of varying genders, orientations, and ages that hopes to create a conversation that removes stigma and opens eyes to see the humanity of individuals, rather that a political issue.

“It’s not about your issues. It’s about the people.” Jo Mora told us when we met with her.

Though Hutch in Harmony has heretofore only touched on issues of race, we want to be support to any an all individuals who are discriminated against, marginalized, made to feel alone, afraid, or other, regardless of color, gender, orientation, age, or disability.

A monthly book club we at Hutch In Harmony are beginning! Expand your mind and learn about experiences and issues you might not otherwise encounter!

In observation of November being Native American Heritage Month, we’ll be discussing The Sacred Hoop, by Paula Allen Dunn, in Metro’s comfy space.

We’ll also have a blog post for online discussion following the event, for those of you who would like to participate virtually. If you haven’t read the book, you are still welcome to join in on the discussion!
